Midwest Youth Music Program Brings Music to the Blackbox

The Midwest Youth Choir and Orchestra students performed at their Spring concert Wednesday, May 24 at Hammond Central High School’s Walter J Watkins Blackbox Theatre. Students in the Orchestra performed a combination of solos and ensemble songs.

Poems written by guests at the 5th annual Spring Tea were read by Family Engagement Coordinator, Tamla Day-Gilbert, and Communication and Development Manager, Ian Brundige.

The Midwest Youth Choir, Level 1, performed songs from the Musical Matilda. Student Clara Gabehart was featured as a soloist during the song “When I Grow Up.”

Guest Artist Jonathan Joseph closed out the concert performing two inspiring songs. Joseph met with students and families after the concert taking photos and signing concert programs. Connecting students to working musicians and artist like Jonathan is an important part of BBB4E's mission.

Summer Choir begins June 14 at the Hammond Public Library.
