Play It Forward
Give the gift of music to our community!
May 1, 2017 – May 1, 2020
Books, Brushes & Bands for Education (BBB4E) has been serving students and their families since 2000. Our goal is to have 100 students in the Midwest Youth Band and 75 students in our newest instrumental group, Midwest Youth Orchestra by the year 2020.
To allow for more access to instruction, every student that we serve is subsidized by at least 65% of their tuition and instrument rental, which we provide to help with costs of instruments.
As enrollment continues to grow every year, more and more instruments and materials are needed for purchase. Throughout the years, we have purchased instruments and have had many donated to us, but our inventory is limited, which limits the number of students we are able to serve.
Play It Forward is a 3 year-long campaign running from May 1, 2017 – May 1, 2020 geared towards our instrumental programs. Our goal is to raise $300,000 that will go directly towards our instrumental programs in purchasing new instruments, repairing donated instruments, and buying materials for those classrooms and instruments.
Together, we can make a difference and give the gift of music to more students.
Over the years, many of our instruments that students are using have been donated from members of the community or through various instrument drives. If you are a business or know of a business that would like to participate, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org ATTN: Play It Forward to set up a meeting to set up an instrument drive.
Currently, donations are accepted at our office location at Merge – 5920 Hohman Ave., Hammond, IN or at our class location during instrumental classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15 – 7:15 pm, 6530 New Hampshire Ave., Hammond, IN. Please contact Shelley Lohr at (219) 932-3232 to set up a donation time that works best for you!
We strongly encourage any donation to be done during our classes so students can learn about giving back and where their instruments are. Your picture may be taken with the students at the beginning or at the end of class, if you’d like.
For instrument drives, the Midwest Youth Choir is also available for a performance at your business. Please ask staff about this opportunity.
Many of our instruments that are donated to us are missing pieces like bows, ligatures, cases, and more. Our list of materials needed specifically for instruments constantly changes. If you’d like to learn about how to purchase materials for instruments that we need, please email us at email@example.com.
We also have an on-going wishlist on Amazon that you can check out here and have the materials sent directly to our office. Make sure to use Amazon Smile and mark us as your charity of choice. Materials include our office supplies needs.
The Midwest Youth Band and Midwest Youth Orchestra are in need of different instruments in various sizes. If your instrument is in poor condition and you’d like info about repairs/cleaning, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be more than happy to help!
Cases for instruments are also needed as a few instruments come to us with no case.
