Instruction provided by David Allie, Merit School of Music

Books, Brushes & Bands for Education’s Midwest Youth Band provides highly qualified instruction from the Merit School of Music. Classes are open to students in grades 3-12 from both Indiana and Illinois with no experience necessary. General requirements merely include a desire to excel musically.

Students will learn how to read musical compositions, play their instrument, and more.

All Midwest Youth Band students may compete in the Books, Brushes & Bands Midwest Youth Artist Contest on Saturday, March 17th.

2017 - 2018 ACADEMIC YEAR

Location: Miller Facility, 6530 New Hampshire Avenue, Hammond, IN
Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Instrument Rental: If a student requires an instrument to rent through BBB4E, instruments will go on a first come, first serve basis.


Tuition: $400.00
Registration Fee: $15.00 (due upon registration)
Instrument Rental: $96.00

Payment plans and assistance is available. For more information, click here. Tuition and instrument rental (if applicable) are not due in full until April 1, 2018. There is a minimum payment of $20.00/month due per child.

Beginning Band

For those with little to no experience.

Time: 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.
Orientation: Mandatory for all those who participate, September 12th
Start Date: September 12, 2017
End Date: May 17, 2018
Demonstration Concert: Tuesday, February 27, 5:30 p.m.
Spring Concert: Thursday, May 17th, 6:30 p.m.

Intermediate Band

Experienced students.

Time: 6:15 – 7:15 p.m.
Orientation: Mandatory for all those who participate, October 10th
Start Date: October 10, 2017
End Date: May 17, 2018
Winter Concert: Thursday, December 14th, 6:30 p.m.
Spring Concert: 
 Thursday, May 17th, 6:30 p.m.

A special message from Glen Sobel

In 2013, a few of our students went to see the Alice Cooper band and met guitarist Ryan Roxie and drummer Glen Sobel beforehand. Glen Sobel then sent a video message to our students that was shown at their summer concert.
