Instruction provided by David Allie, Merit School of Music

Books, Brushes & Bands for Education’s Midwest Youth Band provides highly qualified instruction from the Merit School of Music. Classes are open to students in grades 4-12 from both Indiana and Illinois with no experience necessary. General requirements merely include a desire to excel musically.

Students will learn how to read musical compositions, play their instrument, and more.

All Midwest Youth Band students may compete in the Books, Brushes & Bands Midwest Youth Artist Contest. 2019 date to be announced.

2018 - 2019 ACADEMIC YEAR

Location: Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts – 6915 Grand Ave (Door F)
Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Instrument Rental: If a student requires an instrument to rent through BBB4E, instruments will go on a first come, first serve basis.


Tuition: $400.00
Registration Fee: $15.00 (due upon registration)
Instrument Rental: $112.00 (for the entire academic year)

Payment plans and assistance is available. For more information, click here. Tuition and instrument rental (if applicable) are not due in full until April 4, 2019. There is a minimum payment of $20.00/month due per child.


Beginning Band

For those with little to no experience.

Time: 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.
Orientation: Mandatory for all those who participate
Start Date: October 2nd, 2018
End Date: May 9, 2019

Intermediate Band

Experienced students.

Time: 6:15 – 7:15 p.m.
Orientation: Mandatory for all those who participate
2019 Start Date: January 8, 2019
End Date: May 9, 2019

A special message from Glen Sobel

In 2013, a few of our students went to see the Alice Cooper band and met guitarist Ryan Roxie and drummer Glen Sobel beforehand. Glen Sobel then sent a video message to our students that was shown at their summer concert.
