The arts are my life and so are children. When Books, Brushes and Bands for Education was started by two very good friends I signed on as a charter member because of the dedication, talent and just plain hard work of the group was sure to make a difference in the lives of children.
Since college I have taught art in the Gary Public Schools and some would call me a "seasoned teacher" yet each and every day is an opportunity for me to share my love and experiences of the arts with my students. The richness of the world's arts and cultures are what I try to bring to my classroom for those who will probably never be able to experience them first hand.
The awesome programs that BBB4E can offer in the literary, visual, and musical arts deepens and strengthens those experiences which students can only "taste" in the classroom. Whether students are making a 3-dimensional book, learning about their hands, attending a major play in Chicago, writing poetry or showcasing their talent in one of our many local concerts.
My philosophy is get involved, expand your horizons and learn something new everyday. The students, parents, teachers, administrators and volunteers continue to give me faith in our programs and in our future. Come and join us and see the miracle of youth maturing, expanding and creating a richer and more creative world.
